Not as dark as promised...,
This review is from: Beyond Black (Paperback)
I was attracted to this book by its promise of darkness and the supernatural. It was incredibly well written, and I was especially impressed with the depiction of the M25 corridor. Brilliant. But I didn't find the darkness I was seeking!
I found the style, at times, veering towards chick lit, which I don't mind in itself, it just wasn't what I was expecting from this book. Some of the subject matter, yes, I guess it was nasty, but I thought I'd find more darkness in the supernatural world 'beyond black'. I found nothing original in the depiction of the supernatural world and, in fact, I did not find this portrayal very convincing. Too much like cartoons running around the room playing tricks on everyone.
Overall, though, this was undoubtledly a good read and was full of good characers. I would recommend the book.
