This is the first novel from 'Sara Fraser' that I have read, and after two chapters, knew that it was written by a man - I later found out that this was actually the case, as 'Sara Fraser' is a pseudonym for 'Roy Clews'. I really enjoyed the storyline and earthy characters, and the period, the early 1800's, is one of my favourites. Absolutely LOVED the central character, Tom Potts, who is a Police Constable in a village, who appears to have the patience of a saint. Not the hero who is usually in charge of these storylines, but a human, flawed and sensitive character. He really does make a refreshing change. I eagerly await his emergence into an intelligently confident P.C in future books of this series, as that's where he seems to be heading. Wonderful descriptive writing of action and scenery. A recommended easy read.
