It is very rare for me to like an album on first listen, but this is outstanding. Hed Kandi is known for its beach house, funky house and disco house; something it has done very well, catering for the twenty- and thirty-something well-heeled trendy set. I have traditionally liked all of their produce (with the exception of the Back to Love stuff, which is pants).
With this ablum, though, there is a marked detraction from type. It's very downtempo, minimal accompaniment (often just a piano or acoustic guitar with a subtle bassline) and could be described as "Hed Kandi Unplugged" I suppose. With a hint of old-school Cafe del Mar, before that went down the commercial toilet. But sounds more "grown up", if that's the right term, than the other chill-out series - I'd actually buy it for my mum as well as for myself and not feel rediculous doing so.
To conclude: if you like grown-up downtempo chill stuff then buy this box set. It's only £15 and you get three most excellent CDs.
