4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome soundtrack but where is the rest of it?, 19 Dec. 2012
This review is from: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is awesome. Having said that, there is music from the film that is missing from this soundtrack which, in being the 'special edition', is ludicrous in my opinion. The obvious example of this is that film is littered is the main theme, misty mountains cold, in an orchestral domain which is awesome to the extent that you will come out of the cinema humming that tune all the way home. However, there are only slight renditions of this incredible piece of music on 2 tracks. What is up with that??

We can only hope that a 'full recordings' album will released.

J.Bourne is absolutely right..!!! I was looking out for the particular theme with the fanfare; the closest to it is Misty - The Dwarves Song From 'The Hobbit' by L'orchestra Cinematique

Yes, it is a little heartbreaking not to find it - I kept thinking I must have just missed it on my first few listens through, but there is no single track that displays the theme to its glory. Bizarre, really!

R. Garside says:
The film was quite extensively re-scored after the soundtrack was finalised and presumably all those extra renditions of the theme were requested by Peter Jackson. The original 1 CD recordings for the film trilogy were different from the film versions in a similar way. I assume that when we get the extended cuts of the Hobbit, the Complete Recordings as heard in the film will appear.

I agree. The rendition of the theme you're talking about does appear on the non-Special Edition release, disc 1, track 10 "Roast Mutton, at about 2:20. Why it was not included on the Special Edition I'll never know. But there is likely to be a Complete Recordings release after the extended edition of the film is done.
