Looks really great but REALLY isn't,
This review is from: Sumvision Ice 800 2GB Touch Sensitive MP4 Player (Electronics)
First off, the good.
The player is small, light and the screen is pretty sharp. The music playback is perfectly adequate, though I didn't get to test it fully (not owning a decent set of headphones). The buttons are responsive (though occasionally need a little extra pressure to operate). The player supports browsing of nested folders, so the drag and drop people out there are nicely accommodated.
Now the bad.
I had two players and neither would connect with any of the (several) Apple Macs I tried connecting to (error code -36). Both players bombed the 3 Win XP PCs I tested (the returns department confirmed the failures). So I would guess that at the very least, Sumvision have some manufacturing problems.
The control system on the player is bizarre to say the least. There's a menu item for Music, Radio, Movies, Setup and Browser. Why so many options when, Browser, Music and Movies all do the same thing - browse through folders and play whatever you select (music or movies). I would have preferred to see a single Browse option - less screen clutter and less clicking.
The screen, though clear, is best viewed off centre. Plus, it scratches easily so make careful use of screen protectors.
The txt file reader is pointless - the screen is WAY too small for viewing all but a couple of lines of text.
The instruction manual is poor and takes some re-reading to get to grips with - a minor gripe.
Finally, as I write this, the Sumvision site doesn't even have the player listed as part of their product range (no firmware updates either) and has no contact details available, so zero support.
If I were you, I'd make like the song and walk on by.
