Customer Review

on 5 June 2012
This isn't a bad film by any means. It has some clever one-liners, some fast paced action scenes and an OK (if very predictable) storyline. It has one big fault, however, and it's not even a fault of it's own making, just that it happened to be made close in the wake of the excellent Sherlock BBC series.
The BBC's Sherlock is cerebral, amusing and brilliantly written. A Game of Shadows by comparison doesn't come close. The over reliance on chase and fight sequences and the lack of any twists whatsoever leaves it in a poor second place. By half way I was wondering how much longer it had to run - always a sign of a film which has failed to capture the imagination.
Benedict Cumberbatch has quickly become the definitive 21st century Holmes, and for Downey Junior to have half a chance of competing, he needs a much better script than this.
