Customer Review

on 2 October 2012
This is a fun enough read which details the life of writer/producer Rob Long and his attempts, after writing for and producing the final two years of Cheers, to launch his own sitcom. It's fairly amusing stuff, and I can see why at the time it was published it might have been considered a quite fascinating insight in to how television is made, but in these days where showrunners like Russel T.Davies publish an enormous book detailing how they ran their programme, and there's extensive interviews with those behinds the scenes on various sites like The AV Club, you won't learn anything particularly new here.

What makes it worth reading is Long's relationship with his egotistical and quite bizarre agent, and how he's treated by those in the industry at times, but as a lot of it is written in script format it's a very slim read, and only takes a couple of hours to finish.

An enjoyable holiday read then, and if you don't expect too much from it you'll probably enjoy it a fair bit. It's just a shame it's not more detailed and that Long chooses to not name anyone in the business, either!
