Customer Review

on 29 December 2011
I'm going with 4 stars on this one - it's a good album but it lacks a little something of the quintessential Nightwish experience. I didn't realise before reading the other reviews this forms part of a film soundtrack - but I was already thinking on the first listen that it what it sounded like, in the Hans Zimmer/Nick Glennie-Smith genre, with a few heavy guitars mixed in.

That I think is the slight undoing, everything is overlaid with the orchestral backdrop which overwhelms the usual folk-rock rock-metal metal-heavy metal combination of tracks found on previous Nightwish albums.

Worth a listen and of course the bonus instumental CD will provide a slightly different slant on the material, but thus far I haven't been convinced to free up space on the MP3 for it.
