I was a bit hesitant to purchase this product as cat fountains in the past had a great deal going against them: too loud, not enough water capabilities, possibility of electrocution, and the main problem - the cats or kittens wouldn't use them.
Cats as a general rule will always opt for fresh water, and after a few hours - no matter how often you change a cat's water bowl - they find water in the cat bowl stale and often will refuse to drink from it. What appealed to me about this cat fountain is that it has a great filter - which is reusable for several weeks (3-4 weeks), and it aerates the water through the pumping of the water through the filter. So, to a cat, even though the water in the contain (up to 3 L) is the same water from several days ago, it is constantly filtered and imbued with air by the pump and filtering, keeping it fresh, which attracts the cat or kitten.
Our two Abyssinian kittens took to the water fountain after a day, and though we keep a small bowl of water down at the moment as an alternative, we note that daily they tend to prefer the fountain over the bowl more and more. The sound produced by the fountain is minimal (it only gets loud when the water gets too low and the pump causes gurgling), and it produces the water in a coated stream over the top of the fountain, which is more than enough for the cat to lap up as it needs.
If you do purchase this fountain, be sure to purchase the packet of filters which are often offered as a saide purchase. This is about 2.5-3 months' worth of filters, and at the low price I paid (under £7), well worth it.
