1.0 out of 5 stars Super Cheesy, 3 Jun. 2013
This review is from: Super Collider (Audio CD)
I tried to like it, I really did. BUT there is no other way to put it, this album is super cheesy and flat out sucks. On "Youthanasia" Megadeth showed they didn't need to be a full
on thrash metal band to create interesting and worthwhile songs. So the lack of thrash and that this is a hard rock album isn't the issue, it's the severe lack of quality songwriting. It sounds like Mustaine crapped these songs out in 5 minutes. Any of the few ideas on display here that do have potential, they unfortunately fail to turn them into compelling whole songs. The biggest pitfall of the album are the outright laughable, cringe worthy and embarrassing lyrics on every song. They are grating and kill any of the decent moments in the underlying music:

"Burn baby burn cause it's feels so good...fire, burning desire, my desire to burn...burns hotter than hell"

Are you kidding me? Some of the solos are ok but this is Megadeth for crying out loud, they should be awesome.

Overall, Super Collider is a strong contender for being the worst Megadeth album ever. Perhaps Mustaine should stop making new albums altogether and only tour, Megadeth still put on a good live show. But if this is really the best he can possibly do at this point in his career, perhaps it is time to hang it when it comes to studio work.

The only people who I can see really liking this album are the type of fans who blindly love everything Mustaine releases regardless of the quality (even if it was just the sound of Mustaine farting into a microphone). Sad to say, the sound of flatulence may actually be an improvement over some of what you'll hear on this release.

Not needed buddy. Criticise the album fair enough, but don't trash the fans that like it.

If you don't like it then fine but there's no need to trash other people. The anonimity of the Internet is a great place for lonely keyboard warriors to spout insults. Bet you wouldn't dare shout that mouth of yours off in real life.

You're just assuming that Megadeth fans HAVE to be Thrash fans, and HAVE to only like Thrash. Well I happen to like a broad spectrum of music, and I like Super Collider. Do I blindly like every single release from Mustaine and co? No, I don't. I wasn't entirely impressed with "Thirteen", and whilst "Endgame" had some moments of genius, I didn't like some tracks on that album either, etc. You're clearly biased, and clearly had very specific expectations of this album. Stop throwing your toys out the pram just because Super Collider isn't the Thrash album you expected it to be... get a life...

I agree, it's on a par with RISK, very rock metal, not thrash metal... Mustaine really has lost it here, poor lyrics, no aggression and losing sight of what Megadeth were built on. I'll wait till it goes 2nd hand for about £4 before I buy it and only to keep the collection up to date. I will not pay full price for this, it ain't good enough.

A. I. Mactaggart, you clearly missed the part in my review:

"On "Youthanasia" Megadeth showed they didn't need to be a full on thrash metal band to create interesting and worthwhile songs. So the lack of thrash and that this is a hard rock album isn't the issue, it's the severe lack of quality songwriting."

These songs regardless of the style/genre objectively SUCK. I assumed nothing. It doesn't matter that it isn't thrash and I'm not "just assuming that Megadeth fans HAVE to be Thrash fans, and HAVE to only like Thrash.". I like a broad spectrum of music as well and in comparison to everything else out there, this album is garbage. Time will not be kind to this album and these songs will not hold up years down the road like some of the rest of Megadeth's back catalogue does and will continue to do as long as hard rock/metal is being played. The songs on "Super Collider" are lazy turds that are poorly written and arranged for any genre of music songwriting.

No I didn't miss that, I just recognised it for the shallow attempt to cover up your bias that it was.

Get a clue. Your perception that I'm "clearly biased" is wrong. I just have ears and a brain and can hear when a new release from an artist is not to up to par, which Super Collider certainly isn't. Obviously if your standards for music are very low which yours clearly are, then yes I would imagine you would like this album. Much like I imagine you think Nickleback are brilliant. "Endgame" did have some good moments. But the fact that you said ""Endgame" had some moments of genius" proves your nose is very far up Mustaine's butt hole indeed.

Resorting to personal abuse just makes you look small and negates any worthwhile comments you might have made in your review. This is the sort of thing I expect from the comments on Youtube, not on Amazon reviews. Shame.
