Customer Review

The cynic, the rat and the fist has been given a lovely ltd edtion release by the German label filmart ltd to 1000 copies only, so don't delay and get it while you can. English and German audio options, plus several special feature with english options as well. The transfer is slightly better than the grey market Alfa digital release from a few years ago but does still have the annoying audio dropouts that plagued that release, mostly near the start of the film. Fortunately they're not too distracting.

As for the film itself, this is the sequel to the far superior "Rome armed to the teeth" (also available from Filmart in a ltd edt release) which Umberto lezni directed the previous year and is a classic of the genre. The sequel sees Maurizio Merli return as Inspector Tanzi who is now working in a factory after leaving the police force. When "The Chinaman" played by the always brilliant Tomas Milian gets out of prison he's determined to take out the cop who put im there. To complicate matters, another gangster, the american Di Maggio (John Saxon) try's to muscle in on The Chinaman's turf. So Tanzi decides to paly one against the other.

Compared to RATTT the action and set-pieces (what little there is) are perfunctory and rather cheap, this being made by Variety films is no surprise, as most of their movies were made extremly cheaply. Thank god the plot saves the day as Tanzi plays the Chinaman and Di Maggio off one another with some superb performances all round. The ending is a bit anti-climatic but if your into Eurocrime movies this should most defintely be in your collection.
