It's a shame that my first ever review isn't more positive. As a big fan of McRae's previous work I was quietly looking forward to listening to this.
What I heard did not delight my ears. Ok, it's not all rubbish and there are three or four good tracks but too much of the album re-hashes previous output and several of the tracks ("...Troubles", "Me & Stetson", "Best Winter" et al) seem to be sketches of songs based around a single musical motif which don't seem to go anywhere.
There was none of the chill-down-the-spine of "You Cut Her Hair" from the first album or "Got a Suitcase..." from King of Cards, nor was there the put-the-smile-on-your-face of "Bright Lights" or "One Mississippi" from King of Cards or "Karaoke Soul" from Just Like Blood.
It's all a bit disappointing. Maybe the album will improve with age!

Dave Bennett says:
Look, I've been a fan since day 1 and I don't think it's up to his best work. I've listened to the album maybe 10 times since I bought it and I'm still not convinced.
However, I still listen to all 4 of the other albums regularly and thoroughly enjoy them. Everyone is entitled to a dip in form and I daresay I'll buy album number 6 the day it comes out just like the rest of them.
Is it so wrong to have a negative opinion?

Ha ha, I totally agree! People should only review things when they can give a valid review and not hastily putting bad comments out there. Luckily all the other reviews are excellent, which suggests to most sensible people that they have thought about it first!
