A wonderful set: I should rather have had the Sherkassky Grieg/Tchaikovsky/Schumann/Litolff concerti instead of three performances of The Planets! but I can see why they were included. EMI recordings of the 1960's were considered to be superb: very warm and detailed - better than many more recent digital recordings: and so they prove!! Boult lavishes as much care and panache on the well known items as he does on the rarer ones ,and the result is a set to cherish.
Perhaps Warner will now give us 'Boult - the complete accompanist' as there are lots more recordings never yet transferred to CD. BUY, BUY, BUY!!!

You are a man after my own heart! I was so pleased to see these rarer items re-emerge, and they do not disappoint. And I'm 100% with you on the Cherkassy.

The set arrived today and I am already on CD8 - superb! What verve(not a word one would expect to use about Boult!)> There are quite a few Boult concerto recordings never or hardly ever available on CD so let's hope!!(especially as they are so good - I had the Cherkassky on Music for Pleasure!)
