This review is from: Canon PowerShot S95 Digital Camera (High Sensitivity 10 Megapixel, 3.8x Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD Screen) (Camera)
I moved to digital SLRs from film some time ago and went through a 450d and now use an EOS-7D, a fantastic piece of kit in its own right but then you'd expect it to be right? My little 'out and about' Kodak compact is OK but it was always a decision, "do I take my 'proper' camera and take pictures I'm pleased with, or on the occasions when an SLR is just too much to take more casual pictures with, do I take the compact and be disappointed with the results?"
So like many, I've been pondering a 'High end' compact for a while across several price ranges. I considered all the usual suspects and plumped for this because it is a genuine pocket sized compact, I'm used to Canons already and I've not seen much in the way of bad words about it, or the S90, before.
I am impressed. It is an amazing piece of engineering.
The flexibility and options are great and more useful than expected. However the fact that you can control it like a 'proper' camera too, then just stick it back in your jeans pocket, is the big plus. The actual picture quality, especially in low light, which is when this will be used most frequently, is absolutely terrific. It is very tactile, lovely to use. I personally really like the finish and got used the pop up flash position very quickly.
I keep wanting to add "...for a little compact" to every statement. It doesn't need that, it is quality kit in it's own right and very fine and intuitive to use. Yes it's not a 7D but it's more than good enough for what it's required to do.
