Customer Review

on 5 December 2013
Clearly a serious novelist who has done her research but the flow of the story lets the novel down. Some rather awkward plot contrivances with an expert dyer turning up as hospital orderly just so that he could be in the right place at the right time. My main gripe is that I felt that the story should have been shorter and the plot needed to move more quickly. I'd worked things out ages before Kate and that annoyed me. Also, I really disliked almost all of the characters, especially those connected with the mill and did not find the ending satisfactory. A book I struggled to force myself to finish (and I can easily read a couple of books a day!)
