Superb sound quality but needs a bit of work,
This review is from: SanDisk Sansa Fuze+ 4GB MP3 with FM Radio - Black (Electronics)
As an owner of a Fuze this was the natural upgrade path for me. I was very happy with the Fuze: great sound quality, expandable via cards and able to play open file formats (Flac, Ogg Vorbis).
Firstly the positives:
> The Fuze+ sounds better than the original Fuze. The Fuze+ has *astonishingly good* sound quality: The precision of the treble is amazing, the low bass response is just unbelievable (much better than ipods) and the stereo image is vastly improved. In fact I now get totally convincing sounds originating round the room, so much so I keep on looking for where they are coming from! This is a major improvement over the original Fuze. (I use Ogg Vorbis at approx 224 kbps, your mileage with mp3s may vary.)
> I like the new stroke pad interface because it is totally silent. The original Fuze had quite loud clicks on the buttons which made it a bit irritating in quiet environments.
> The new firmware has player lock function on the top button which is good.
> The display is bigger and better resolution and is perfect for me.
> The battery life is very good.
Then the negatives:
> The stroke pad is just not responsive enough. Sometimes there is a real lag on this which is annoying.
> Slow start up. I have a 4GB player + 16GB card (about 3000 tracks total) and the start up time is about 1 minute. This is too long.
> There are several functions from the original Fuze which are missing: the main one for me is the ability to look at all the filename and tag details (I embed rating and other information in this). There are also several minor things like folder view which are missing.
> Volume levelling doesn't seem to work with Ogg Vorbis files (yet)
Sansa do seem to issue regular firmware updates so I am hopeful these will be added eventually (like they did with the original Fuze).
In conclusion, if you want amazing sound quality at a low price you can't go wrong, provided you are prepared to put up with a tricky interface.
