I can't believe that no-one has given this book a rating yet! I own about 30 WW2 German biographys and this is up there with the best of them. The book has just the right amount of action and detail. Some books of this nature are full of numbers and figures and tend to get boring but not this one. As an artillery soldat you might think that the author was miles from the action but believe me he wasn't! One of the best chapters in this book is when he goes forward to see what has happened to his friends that went on patrol and finds them wounded. Claus then has to direct artillery fire onto his own position. I'll say no more about that, only that it's breathtaking! Quite a few generals and other officers that Claus dealt with have text written about them on Wikipedia too, so it was interesting to read what happened to some of them after the war also. All in all a really good read and highly recommended!
