I've been a fan of Wagon Christ aka Luke Vibert aka Plug etc etc. since I heard his genius "Drum and Bass for Papa" LP. This LP stands up to that one, and his other true classic "Big Soup". All the Vibert trademarks are there...genuinely funny samples, expertly sequenced loops and (as a result) hooks to die for. Unlike his contemporaries like u-ziq and Aphex Twin, Luke hasn't got bogged down in trying to make really complicated 2,000bpm polyrhythmic beats that you can't dance to..he just lets the beats roll and concentrates on building fantastic melodies, and making coherent tracks that are just a joy to listen to. In dance music terms he's a veteran now, and really deserves more recognition outside the whole "Dance" cul-de-sac. This is the kind of music you don't need to be a rabid clubber, nor a dieheard Vinyl junkie to enjoy...its just darn good electronic music written by one of the great unsung heroes of his generation.
