We use these cheap beds for the dogs to lounge on when outside on the patio as they are very light to gather up and stow away when an unexpected shower comes and easy to wash. The padding is a very thin layer indeed, definitely not enough to give reasonable comfort and relief from pressure with dogs as heavy as say, Labradors. I would buy something much thicker for their main bed. Note that these beds are NOTHING like as plump as the photo suggests. They are about the thickness of a folded hand towel. If you want an inexpensive thicker bed, you could consider a nice well-made cover from the Linenpress stuffed with a cheap supermarket duvet. Easy to wash and will last. We bit the bullet and bought expensive beds from Orvis which we are now glad about as the dogs love them, don't eat them and they have lasted for years, therefore costing about the same as buying lots of cheaper beds more often.
Important note added later: our Labradors had a strange skin rash and infected ears. After much investigation, it turned out that these beds have a dye in them which caused this. I would advise avoiding them..
