Deathstalker charts the adventures of a barbarian swordsman who becomes involved in a competition to become the heir of the evil sorcerer Muncar. On his way he has to recover a magic sword, fight hords of baddies and rescue several scantily clad maidens... of course. The film has been completed to a budget probably similar to a single episode of Zena, and the special effects and sets are poor (even for an eighties barbarian movie!) On the plus side, there is loads of dark humour, a couple of excellent cameo performances, and a hilerious soundtrack that feels like it has been robbed from a spaghetti western! Needless to say that the femail members of the cast have been issued with little of no clothes, and the director takes every opportunity for these to fall off!!! This film is impossible to rate objectively. If you are looking for another Lord of the Rings, go elsewhere. It scores zero. But If you don't take your films too seriously and you are prepared for a low budget, ham-acted but darkly funny and sexy barbarian romp, look no further. Top marks for a boys night in with a shed load of beer and a pizza!
