A great reference and a great read.,
This review is from: Psychology: Themes and Variations (Hardcover)
This was the prescribed text for psychology at my university. It was impossible to get a copy second hand because everyone who bought the book wanted to keep it. It is a fascinating overview of psychology written in an accessible and fun way. It makes learning the subject a pleasure and manages to teach you all sorts of useful concepts in science along the way.
The style of the prose, layout, pictures and examples make for easy reading. And the author also shows how all the concepts are applicable in everyday life - so the reader can use the book to improve his memory, sleep, appreciation of art etc.
I bought my copy in 1991 and still use it to study for psychiatry exams. But I also regularly open it to read for pure enjoyment. A gem of a book - highly recommended.
