I was a little sceptical at first about this book. Firstly the cover put me off as it looked like a 1950's magazine cover form the USA..perhaps that is the idea.....Secondly there is no contents page and lastly at the outset the narrative tends to jump several years back and forth. Once into the book things change. Firstly there is no need of a contents page as it is almost a stream of narrative leading the reader on. But the main plaudit is the content of the book itself. The breadth of research is breathtaking and it reads almost like a very good novel.Packed full of facts and in depth faction fighting within different government departments makes the book one that is difficult to put down. One of the best books on the subject of the Second World War, and there are very many of them , that I have read.
