Marvel's best movie thus far.....,
This review is from: Guardians Of The Galaxy [DVD] (DVD)
Oh where to start? Kevin Bacon? Celestials? Oh there are so many little gems in the film it was hard to keep up with them. Move over Avengers etc as Guardians of the galaxy is the best Marvel movie to date. Well its certainly the funniest thus far thanks to some fantastic characters and dialogue. Its customary for a small band of critics on amazon to pour scorn over any superhero movie. Maybe those guys are just a wee bit long in the tooth and just can't let the inner fanboy out and enjoy the spectacle. So if you don't enjoy GoTG then you have little hope.......
The film opens with a very touching and sad scene. Peter Quill is at his mothers death bed in hospital during her final moments before we skip 20+ years later and the adventure begins. Quill or "Starlord" as he would like the galaxy to know him by, has stumbled upon an artifact of great power (an infinity gem). Thus everyone who is anyone wants what he has. As a fugitive with a bounty on his head its not long before he crosses swords with Gamora (seeking the gem for Thanos via Ronan) and Rocket/Groot (who just wants the bounty on Quill's head). So the rag tag outfit get arrested and dumped in jail where the group is complete with the introduction of Drax. And here the adventure really begins.......
So the Guardians have to save the galaxy (Duh!) from the crazed Ronan the accuser and his army. All sounds pretty simple right? Well it would be but for the fact that plenty of other people also want the infinity gem. Well thats as far as I'm going with the plot because I don't want to spoil anything. The film is a roller-coaster ride which uses comedy just as much as action to fuel the adventure. Its hard to pick anyone out for special praise as they all do such a fantastic job. Chris Pratt (Starlord) is the glue that holds the team together and is extremely funny. However its Rocket Raccoon that gets some of the best lines.....just ask Stan Lee! Probably the biggest surprise from the team is the performance of Dave Bautista as Drax. His deadpan delivery in much of his dialogue and interaction with the rest of the team is comedy gold. Groot is the muscle and comic relief (and gets a nice change of dialogue towards the conclusion) whilst Zoe Saldana beats the crap out of most things she comes up against.
The bad guys are more of a mixed bunch. Ronan is threatening and comes across as a bigger presence than even Thanos. Thanos for the little screen time he has is probably the biggest let down of the film (apart from the star wars esque chase scene about half way through the film). His appearance is much too bright and should have been kept hidden in the shadows. Nebula (Karen Gillan) doesn't appear that much nor does Djimou Hounson as Korath. Its the Guardians who take up most of the screen time and its a real treat. The film contains so many blink-and-you-miss-it easter eggs, witty dialogue, great character interactions and THE dance off of all dance off's to save the galaxy. Marvel just upped the ante with this one. Its a feel good film with a great mixture of comedy and action......roll on the next chapter of the GoTG.

Cheers. Its such a feel good film. So many great things going on that you could watch it again and again. But for me it has to be the whole Kevin Bacon dancing theme......Chris Pratt utterly nailed the role. He most certainly throws down the gauntlet (no pun intended) to Robert Downey Jnr as the most charismatic member of the Marvel universe. Although there is always Rocket Raccoon....

What's the blu ray like

Hmmmm generally I find people write reviews based upon the film itself. I didn't sit in the cinema watching GoTG thinking about what the picture and sound quality of the blu ray would be like. The blu ray hasn't been released yet but you would know this already. That's how amazon works. I know it, you know it.

You make no sense. It's the BLU RAY you are supposedly reviewing. Amazon is not a movie review site, you review the product. And if you never consider video and audio quality on your blu rays, what is the point of them.

Well go right ahead and tell that to the millions of people who do use Amazon as a REVIEW SITE. You make no sense. Anyhow I'm sure there are plenty of websites for people who are anally retentive about those details.

I must say I was prepared to dismiss this one as the weakest entry of the MCU. But I dunno, It keeps coming back to me in the days
since I saw it. There were some death references in it that seemed at odds with the overall mood of the film But it all worked somehow.
I liked it that the dialogue wasn't too kid friendly as well. Anyway, Timelord, where the hell have you been hiding man? Aint it time to get
back in the saddle of some sage movie reviewing?

"That's how amazon works. I know it, you know it." So why are you a **** then?
You are just some sad little boy with no life.....PMSL you must have been peeing your pants in the cinema dying to get home and just write the story of the film on here.

Well said Kitsa and C. Wise, when the Blue Ray and DVD are finally out i like yourselves and others will have to look all the way through these silly film 2014 reviews trying to get their yes buttons pushed to up their Amazon review rating as we try and find out if the Blue Ray has,a different cut from the DVD,different extras over the DVD and if the Blue Ray picture is any good. There are cinema review sites to leave reviews of films at the flicks, this is Amazon!,dear me.

You don't hear a CD and review the booklet. You don't watch a film and review the disc extras. But I agree - the best Marvel film so far. Hugely enjoyable.
