As a committed meat-eater, this is very much a welcome addition to my ever-growing collection of cookery books.
It would seem that there is a definite trend in cook-book designs to aim for something very stripped back and almost hand-made in appearance. This is certainly in-line with that - a subdued yet stylish brown paper cover, some excellent almost moody photography (landscapes, animals, raw meat and finished dishes), quality thick matt paper, clear typography - it all smacks of something well designed and beautifully delivered.
This is also more than just a collection of recipes - there is a lot of good info about meat, cuts, breeds, labelling as well as more general articles about the seasonality of ingredients and farming life. The recipes themselves are split into monthly collections - reinforcing the importance of using what is in season for best results.
With all this praise, why not 5 stars? Well, I guess I was hoping for something that was slightly more balanced in favour of recipes rather than food writing. The recipes that are included are all very tempting - I would just have liked more! Probably my inner carnivore craving protein!
It is a handsome book - and well worth investigating.
