5.0 out of 5 stars It is THE RETURN OF THE APES in a brilliant way, 1 Sept. 2011
This review is from: Rise of the Planet of the Apes [DVD] [2011] (DVD)
I am a big fan of Sci-Fi movies. The whole Planet Of The Apes are my all time favourite. I'm sure it's of every Sci-Fi freaks too. I have the box set of the first 5 from 1968 to 1973 (Beneath, Escape From, Conquest Of, Battle For) and one from 2001 too. And I also watched the short lived TV episodes. I loved them all.

When the science teacher in school mentioned in brief something about light, time, space and gravity, I found it very very very interesting. You climb onboard Time Machine that travels faster than the speed of light. Then you go on flight for few years. But in that same time of few years, hundreds or thousand of years will pass on Earth. I did not quiet understand this Relativity Theory until I watched Back To The Future, another brilliant movie. Planet Of The Apes is first movie to put it in story if I am not wrong. Time travellers and apes dominating the planet. And the planet is not any alien planet in the Universe but our own Earth in thousand years in the future.

When Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes trailered, I eagerly waited for its release in cinema. The media said it is reboot and not remake or prequel or sequel. After watching it I got confused. I had to take out and watch all the old ones again in one weekend. I don't know how to link it to the previous series but there is a connection in some way. Like Caesar, No, Icarus and all that but not time travelling in this Rise Of. But this is the Return Of the Apes in a brilliant way. It is a brilliant movie with good computer animations and a good story on its own leaving the door open for more. I heard and I hope there will be continuity in the future with apes dominating and then humans fighting back for power and then finally peace. Can't wait for the DVD for my collection.

6 Planet Of The Apes - TV Series (1974)
7 Planet Of The Apes (2001)

The first 5 are also available as The Planet Of The Apes Collection - 6 Disc Box Set. Nice package. And also the TV series.

You've missed out Return To The Planet Of The Apes 1975, the animated series. Sadly only available as an R1 NTSC disc, or as part of the Ape Head collection.
