I love Jules Verne's books and this is my favourite movie adaptation. Despite being outdated the classic set designs and special effects are far more interesting to me than the new CGI movies.
I asume this australian blu ray release is exactly the same "Twilight classics" released in the States. The specs are pretty much the same, but in this case at a much more reasonable price. In my opinion is a shame for major studios treating their classics like "collector items" just to as an excuse to raise the price.
The video quality is just a little bit better than the dvd version. Soft picture, bland colors, no sharpness and the audio is just ok, but according to proffesional reviewers that's due to the film elements. In my memory the movie looked a lot sharper when I saw it on cinemas. No extras AT ALL, appart from Bernard Herrman's wonderful score isolated and a trailer.
"Journey to the Center of the Earth" deserves a 'real collector's edition" with tons of extras and a 'real' digitally remastered print. Otherwise, you're more than ok if you already have the dvd. Even better because at least the dvd has subtitles. This BD release do not. The 3 starts are for the movie, and there would be 5 if the release were better
