This review is from: Douglas Adams: The First and Lost Tapes (Kindle Edition)
In 1979, Ian Shircore was fortunate enough to interview the 27 year-old Douglas Adams, who was on the periphery of global recognition for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. A small portion of this interview appeared in Penthouse magazine at the time but as the tapes were misplaced for quite some years, the rest went unpublished until now.
Ian's commentary is thoughtful and subtly frames the responses of the star of the show. The insightful questions provoke answers which reveal the visions and grievances of a man who has been much celebrated and much-loved in the years since this interview. There is a sense of his self-doubt as he writes the novel that will launch him into orbit and he talks about his frustrations with his work on the Tom Baker era Doctor Who.
In short; this is beautifully presented, essential reading for fans of Douglas Adams, from the casual reader to the more dedicated fan who will joyfully savour these fresh thoughts and words from our hero.
