Pure fun, in a scientific way,

This review is from: Earwig's Tail (Hardcover)
The main message to come from this book is that scientists can have fun. And here is one who does, and is bursting to share her fun with everybody. If you read her earlier "Bugs in the System" (also recommended) you will recall that she had many fascinating digressions, which ended too soon when she dragged herself back to the point. This book is all those digressions, allowed to run their delightful courde. It is, of course, about insects, about which Prof Berenbaum is as close to omniscient as one human can be (which, as she points out, is not very close - there are a lot of insects out there). But it is also about people, their beliefs, and the stories they tell each other in which insects figure. I read it more-or-less at a sitting, but it would very much suit those who prefer to take their reading in small bites.
Both witty and interesting, this is a book about the sheer joy of knowledge.
