Recycled discworld - could be better,

Sam Vimes is definitely one of the most appealing and interesting characters Terry Pratchett has created, but this book lacks originality.
It has flashes of the inimitable Pratchett at his best, but I can't help but feel that there has been too much re-cycling of older plot-lines - a younger version of Carcer from 'Night Watch' appears as the super-villain, in 'Unseen Academicals' the orcs are rehabilitated, this time it's goblins, and Whoops! here comes a re-run of the let's-find-an-uncongenial-character-and-make-him-a-copper plot.
It's all too much (repetition) and not enough (originality), as ever, even in those Discworld stories that have left me cold, there are moments when I wonder how any mind can come up with such wonderfully weird concepts (ungue pots & their contents -this mind boggles) but I'm afraid this will remain on the read-once list. Sorry Terry.
