Bizarre - And All From Memory!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Plays Sgt. Pepper (Audio CD)
I remember many, many years ago when I was a kid doing saturday work in the local supermarket, that music was piped onto the shopfloor and it was generally instrumental versions of "recent" pop tunes played by unknown "session" musicians - all, absolutely terrible and was an instrument of torture for the entire working day!
So, when I saw this one turn up, thoughts went through my head of MUZAK! But, this is, after all, Andy Timmons and his band, and they are no mugs - so I went ahead with a purchase and what do I think now that it's had a handful of straight plays - Bizarre! But very, very likeable, particularly as these are hallowed tunes, almost to the point of untouchability, but Mr T and his band, working from memory alone, have put together one amazing album that should be broadcast to the world as I believe many people would love to own this version of Sgt Pepper!
The tone, the dynamics are all Mr Timmons as we've come to love and expect and the drums and bass are played in a veritable 60's style, so hat's off to Mitch Marine and Mike Daane for an authentic rythmn section to underpin the whole project!
The bonus track of Strawberry Fields is pure class and reminds you of just how clever, musically, The Beatles really were!
Apart from Jeff Beck, I doubt any other guitarist could have pulled this one off - so that ultimately tells you the level at which Andy Timmons truly operates, capable of pretty much all the forms of modern electric guitar playing all rolled up into one very neat package!
