Customer Review

on 17 September 2010
As already pointed out by some reviewers, the cast is the weak point in the version of S&S. While Kate Winslet plays a rather credible willful, spontaneous Marianne, Emma Thompson is just not credible in the role of the older sister. As much as I like her in other films, her pretending to play an 18 year-old does not work. She looks too old and sounds dull. Hugh Grant was not a good choice either, as he was playing his standard role as a weak, overwhelmed man. So ambiguous was his acting that I kept waiting all along for him to turn into the villain of the farce. Rather out of place, since he is, of course, supposed to be the good guy. An irritating film.
