WAS SHE REALLY THAT DIFFERENT TO ANYONE ELSE?,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Enid [DVD] (DVD)
I enjoyed this film,I really did.It came as a breath of fresh air to realise that Enid really was just a human being with her own foibles and eccentricities (like us all!!) that evolved into her becoming an amazing childrens authoress. She had a passionate flair for knowing exactly the secret ingredients for capturing her young readers attention, which, thinking back to my own childhood, could not have been an easy task at all.
How accurate the film details are,I would imagine must be pretty close, without the need for too much poetic licence.
If we are to believe, that she really wasn't a good mother......or to put it another way,she did not come over in the film as a very maternal mother, was to say the least quite surprising.Enid obviously was a very determined person throughout her life, she liked, and got her own way most of the time. She must have been extremely difficult to live with, especially in view of the fact that she mentally lived half of her life in her fantasy world.
However,to have produced a phenomenally huge amount of books over quite a short period of time, surely puts her in the super human league of literary giants.Alas,to then see her descend into dementia in her early 60's must have been extremely difficult for her immediate family and friends to have grasped.I never knew of this fact, and I don't suppose it was broadcast in the news,as it probably would have been these days.
Helena Bonham Carter was as usual superb.I would recommend this film wholeheartedly.
