I first heard Sanguis Venenatus at a concert at Westminster Abbey in March 2011 and it devastated me. Andrew March's elegy is the only piece worth listening to on this entire album. Sanguis is a beautiful paean for strings and it certainly packs a punch because not one note is wasted. Although the overall impression is one of dereliction and loneliness, this piece still has something rich and strange. Such sweet thunder for what seems to be a postlude to life itself.
