Well I never,
This review is from: I Would Never (Audio CD)
Disclaimer: unliker a number of the "reviewers" of the forthcoming album, I have actually heard this.
"I Would Never" is a fine if not phenemonal return from the Blue Nile. It is much closer in sound to "Peace At Last" than "Hats" or "A Walk Across The Rooftops", with Paul Buchanan's weary tones sounding initially a bit too close to acts like Del Amitri or Deacon Blue for comfort. However, despite its simplicity, the song is a grower and worthy of your listen.
The accompanying tracks "I Love This Life" and "The Second Act" were the band's first ever single from over 20 years ago. The fact that they are used is indication of the Blue Nile's lack of productivity. However, given that many fans will not have heard them, and the band's smallness of output is one of their defining characteristics, this is not a problem especially given the magnificence of both songs. The rub is that their strength rather diminishes the qualities of "I Would Never". Still I wait with bated breath for the album and, for the time being, I would never turn my back on my love for this band.
