Customer Review

on 5 March 2007
Clutch's second album simply titled 'clutch' was released in 1995,and is certainly the sound of one of the great times bands in their infancy, they are working on the styles which they would later master of course and this of course implies that this album isnt perfect, and it isnt, but its still a very good album but when compared to their latter output this isnt quite the tigers claw.

Opening up with big news 1 followed by big news 2 is the sound of a confident band, and there is nothing wrong with that, its just that big news 1 isnt the blasting rocker you would expect, yes its a good song but not quite the album opener one would expect,it is also clear that this album is very bass heavy,in fact the use of the bass leads some tracks rather than follows and i dont think thats the greatest idea in the world but at the same time this is a groovy album and that goes somewhat to explaining that.

Rock n roll outlaw follows and grooves like a parrot on a perch as does the excellent 'texan book of the dead' which is probably the albums best track,'escape from the prison planet' and the sublime 'spacegrass' which popped up as a live version on the album 'pure rock fury' is also here on all its glory'.

The reamining tracks differ from brilliant to a tad overcooked,no better example that 'the house that peterbilt' which outstays its welcome if the truth be known and with that is my review of clutchs 'clutch',an album worth owning but a sense of caution is to be adhered too as this isnt the sound of a band with 100 percent killer material.
