A good but not great read.,

While it's good to read so many first-hand accounts drawn together in one volume, the author or the publisher should sack the editor.
Glaring inaccuracies, poor spelling and unforgiveable errors spoil the overall effect: Churchill was never "First Sea Lord of the Admiralty" - no such title existed, getting the name of Monchy-le-Preux (Arras 1917) wrong is another error so easily researched to ensure accuracy before committing to publication.
The net-effect of such errors left me feeling suspicious about other elements of the narrative.
None of this detracts from the accounts of the individuals and often these are well worked into the narrative to provide substance to the author's descriptions.
Kershaw is no Keegan or Holmes (at least not yet).
I give this book a qualified thumbs-up. Read it but be prepared to be as annoyed by it as you are informed or entertained.
