About a third of the way in I started wondering - mind wandering - so took a look at the ending. Then read the last third. May have been my state of mind, so I'll shelve it and try to re-read it in a couple of months' time. It's written competently enough and I read its successor straight through the next day, so it may really be a problem with this story. Don't understand quite why Amazon lists these as "Alex Benedict" stories - they're told (in the main) from the viewpoint of Chase Kolpath.
