Your my Blue Sky,
This review is from: The Allman Brothers - Live In Germany (DVD)
The DVD to accompany the CD (Also available on Amazon), The Allman brothers of 1991 included Allen Woody, Warren Haynes and founder member Dicky Betts. The show filmed in Germany for, I can only assume TV, is pretty representative of the time with a mixture of old songs 'Wippin' Post' 'Blue Sky', and more recent material from the soon to be released at the time ''Shades of the two worlds' album. The show is nicely balanced between the old and the new, and overall not a bad performance, though not a stunning one either possibly because it was being filmed or shown live I am not sure.
The first thing to note is that the 5.1 soundtrack is pretty much non existent, just a bit of ambiance, and the stereo is just Dolby and sounds like it has been recorded through microphones covered in cotton wool, though the cymbals do was a bit as well. So not that good and not as good as if they had used an original soundboard mix. The picture quality as well is overall not good definitely not broadcast standard there are video artefacts throughout and for long periods the bottom 1% of the picture looks like its two frames ahead of the rest of the screen.
Overall I get the feeling that this is dubbed from a VHS or Betamax recording of a TV broadcast, rather than from original master tapes.
This really is for Allman Brothers Band completeists only, while the show is a good representation of the band the video and sound quality are below par, and probably would not cause those new to the band to go an buy more, better to get the Live at the Beacon Theatre DVD (also Available on Amazon) if you want to see a great show.
