I'm no musicologist so I can't give you the in and outs other than to say I've been enjoying this c.d. since I was twelve and it's just fantastic.Ida Haendel is a whirlwind of virtuosic passion and energy.I love the tone of her violin and the recording here captures everybody wonderfully. The Walton is the more obviously accessible of the two,but having said that the Britten is probably my all time favourite violin concerto's.Haunting melodies.multiple crescendo finale's,superbly energised and exciting virtuoso passages,I don't know another Britten piece that has this much energy. This concerto turned me on to Britten and to Ida Haendel (and Paavo berglund) in a big way. I can only say that if you like your music to have drama and really take you on a journey then listen to this.
I would also highly recommend the Sibelius violin concerto also played by Ida haendel and the Bournemouth symphony orchestra, with Paavo berglund conducting. At the present time it's also ridiculously cheap,so don't hesitate
