Customer Review

4.0 out of 5 stars No original language subtitles!, 13 Aug. 2013

This review is from: Five Operas from Glyndebourne with designs by Maurice Sendak: Where the Wild Things are / Higglety Pigglety Pop! / L'Enfant et les Sortilèges / L'Heure Espagnole / The Love of Three Oranges [DVD] [2011] [NTSC] (DVD)
If you plan on watching these operas with English subtitles, then ignore these comments. I speak French and some Russian, and though I am used to the stupid omission of Russian subtitles, I can normally rely on them for operas in French. The sound quality is not too great and diction is frequently sloppy, so I eventually had to turn on subtitles in English; shoddy translation then distracted me throughout. The production is wonderful, as has already been stated by other reviewers, but the transition to DVD is exceptionally lazy.

I know how I'd feel if a Russian DVD omitted English subtitles so I can understand why you feel short-changed here.
