This review is from: Silence Yourself (Audio CD)
Silence Yourself is a rarity in the current musical landscape; an album that is not afraid to advertise the band's Post Punk influences (the shamanic drive of Siouxsie and the Banshees and the atmospherics of Joy Division come immediately to mind) while blazing a fresh sonic trail through the indie jungle. Silence Yourself is a refreshing respite from the blandness and lack of courage which characterises a lot of releases nowadays. What impresses me most is the sheer ferocity that Savages unleash as they slash and burn a path through a dense musical landscape of pounding tribal rhythms, angular guitar and searing vocals, together with a willingness to experiment along the way.
I didn't expect to re-experience the sheer visceral excitement of many of my early eighties musical icons in 2013, so thank you Savages for restoring my faith in the power of indie.
