Customer Review

on 20 February 2009
Pretty much all of the reviews on here are based on the demo, which is in fact almost a year old. So basing a review on an old demo is not a good idea and best left for the full game, but I'm going to give it a go anyway...

Right heres my thoughts on the demo..

Quick notice. Resident Evil 4 was never marketed as 'Survival/Horror' but as an Action game. Resident Evil 5 follows the same style as being an Action game but the Survival/Horror element has returned (kind of..).

Brilliant! While short it does offer 2 sections to play. 'Public Assembly' being the all action part and 'Shanty Town', a quieter more exploration based area. Both areas look stunning, the map graphics and character graphics are some of the best I've seen on a home console. The people that deem the controls unplayble/clunky are fools and have obviuosly not had a proper play of the demo. They are perfectly fine in my opinion and had absolutely NO problem controlling Chris. The lack of run 'n gun doesnt bother me in the slighest either, Capcom are aiming for realism here... why dont you try and pull off a perfect headshot whilst running! Difficult eh? Same with the sound effects (gun shots, ect). The weapons may sound lame to you but in real life a handgun would never give out an allmighty bang, only a small 'pfft' kind of sound, so the sound effects are spot on in this game.
And now.. the AI. The AI is superb. Sheva's AI is great, she heals you, helps if an enemy grabs hold of you and is a great shot. All these people that complain of her getting in the way and dying all the time then you must truely suck at the game and not look out for her because she hasent died at all with me.
Also like many publications in the past said... Ammo is scarce. Although I never found ammo to be scarce in ANY of the previous Resident Evil's before, it seems to be in this one (well the demo at least), ok not so much scarce but you burn through it pretty dam fast, which adds to the tension and panic factor.

Overall I think this game will be outstanding. Not quite as great as the games once were as it is too far removed from the original formula but still a brilliant game. I shall be pre-ordering this now!
