5.0 out of 5 stars A classic from another world, 7 Mar. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a delightful book which I read many years ago, and bought as a gift. Grimble went to the South Pacific in 1913, and met some interesting situations and difficult decisions as an administrator in the Gilbert Islands. Today nowhere is untouched by modern consumer society, but it is still possible to experience a different world through the eyes of a sensitive writer.

F. Collier says:
I fully endorse this review. This book was on our reading list at Daniel Stewart's College, Edinburgh, around the year 1970. The most enjoyable book the school ever asked me to read. Never forgotten, and reading it again is one of the little pleasures I am reserving for a rainy day.
