5.0 out of 5 stars a fool and his money, 6 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Laurel & Hardy Family Feuds 4 Disc Box Set DVD Hollywood Classics Comedy NEW (DVD)
It's too late for me: some fool had to suffer because neither Amazon nor the other reviewers thought it worthwhile to say what exactly is in this set. I bought it on spec, and found I have 90% of it already. But it's not too late for you...

So, this is what it contains (not counting Spanish remakes(!) or 'colorised' versions). All are short films unless otherwise noted:
1. OUR RELATIONS (dual role theme):
Our Relations (feature)
Brats
Twice Two

2. SONS OF THE DESERT
Sons of the Desert (feature)
We Faw Down (silent)
Their Purple Moment (silent)
On the Wrong Trek (Charley Chase)

3. MARRIED LIFE
Blotto
Be Big

4. SOMEONE'S AILING
County Hospital
Them Thar Hills
Tit For Tat
Perfect Day
They Go Boom
Leave 'Em Laughing (silent)

You can see that content on one or two of the disks is a bit thin. Our Relations is described here as 'ingenious', and I suppose in its day it was; but with everything hinging on mistaken identity it now seems a little lame in places. The accompanying shorts use the revolutionary 'dual role' idea to better comic effect. Sons of the Desert was probably the best feature they ever did, and Them Thar Hills one of the best shorts (and the only one that spawned a sequel); actually all the films on disk 4 are good.

So, if you don't already have it (!), in all this makes a reasonable L&H primer. Since they were, and are, the best - even if they do have the odd dud in their huge back catalogue - that means it has to have 5 stars.

Now this is strange! I have just been given this very box set and the titles are very different from those in your review! There are 4 discs entitled Pardon us (vol 19), Blackmail (vol 8), L&H and the law (vol 12) and more brushes with the law (Vol 20). each of the discs contain various titles all different from those in your set.
For example the disc entitled Blackmail contains Chickens come home, in both B&W and Colour, Politiquerias, Come clean, Love em and weep,Sugar daddies and early to bed!

As you say, very strange! As your titles don't all quite fit the 'Family Feuds' concept, maybe they have just started filling out the set with whatever discs they have handy.
