This review is from: The Honourable Schoolboy (Paperback)
Like a lot of reviewers, I have reread this a number of times over the years. Each time I enjoy the experience. It is a complicated story, which is told in a beautifully measured way. In some ways it is a tale of the seventies - the economic doom and gloom, the sense of a failed ex super power, the innate snobbishness of the establishment - all these things shine through. The book evokes not just the time but also the places - foggy London, prehandover Hong Kong etc. And as I said beautifully written - precise but not pedantic, complex but not complicated.
