This review is from: Russell Hobbs Illuminating Glass Kettle, 1.7 L, 3000 W - Clear (Kitchen & Home)
This kettle is less than 6 months old and the lid will not lift up. Upon investigation the lid device is shoddy and totally inadequate for this style of kettle. I have seen other reviews for this kettle with exactly the same problem.
Please do not waste your money as it is expensive. You can look at the kettle and think that looks good. However if you cannot fill it up it is totally useless!

I agree with the above, unfortunately my kettle is out if the garauntee period. Been very pleased with the kettle up untill now. Still boils water perfectly but have problem with raising the lid.

Did you try descaling the lid joint? And if scale was not the problem, please could you tell us what it is?

Lincsman says:
There are a number of faults with the lid. Scaling is the least significant, causing the lid to jam. The most serious is that the plastic lugs which hold the screws break off after a while, rendering the lid useless. The lid is also so flimsy that it can break at the hinge if not treated with utmost care. And finally, many people complain that it does not open sufficiently to enable easy filling.
