Customer Review

on 21 February 2013
Owning these scores is a must for anyone who wants to know more about these historic recordings than just how great they sound. Looking at the writing helps you understand how Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan, John Lewis and John Carisi created the sound that defined this group. You have to forgive some of the speculative chord symbols and realise that what you're looking at is a recreation of what the players read on those recording and live sessions. However, this book allows us all to image what it would have been like to see this music for the first time in the late 1940s.
