My five year old daughter is particularly enamoured of this story at the moment. It has a great twist at the end and she is very good at keeping it secret. She persuaded a friend of ours to read it to her recently and I could hear the friend sounding off about what an unsuitable book it was because the main character was so selfish. Then she found herself having to eat her words at the end, much to my daughter's delight.
The illustrations are crisp, nicely detailed and yet not so busy that a child would find it difficult to engage with. The story is about the nature of true friendship and is full of endearing jokes and surprises. A lovely book.
