I bet everyone has bought a classic film DVD or three. The kind of thing that you buy because you feel you should see it but then take ages before you get around to doing so; Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Twelve Angry Men, whatever. We all do it!
The older films may be more cerebral and mind opening, but you have to work for them. The pace is slower, and there is a lot more dialogue and a lot less action.
This book is like that DVD. It certainly is something you should be reading, and it certainly is well researched and comprehensive. It is also very relevant to the current condition we find ourselves in; the past is always the subtext to the future.
The trouble is that many may never read it, and that is a shame. You will get more from this book regarding the fine balance between liberty and security than listening to the late news. Most importantly, it gives a sense of context to that news.
If you want to see a real ecological sci-fi parable, you should be watching the classic Silent Running rather than Avatar. If you want to read the real news, you should be reading this book rather than the red tops. Cerebral and mind opening has its benefits; that shiver of understanding at the end of a classic film or book is always worth the wait!
