This review is from: Rimsky-Korsakov - Orchestral Works (Audio CD)
I own numerous Naxos CD's and the majority of them offer the listener equal enjoyment to more expensive recordings by more famous performers. This however is not the case with this CD. I bought this after buying Rimsky Korskakov's Greatest Hits, a Sony CD performed by Zubin Mehta, Leonard Bernstein and one or two others. One track from each of these suites appears on the Sony CD. The Naxos recording is amateurish in comparison, the horns are lukewarm and have no punch to them. This is the worst recording I have in my classical collection and would strongly recommend you to look else where if you wish to purchase a recording of these suites. I am happy to buy recordings by lesser known performers however the CSRO Bratislava are best avoided if this is anything to go by!
Mlada is probably the best of the 3, however the Sony greatest hits CD offers the listener far greater enjoyment, and I would strongly recommend it, you will not get better recordings of NRK's popular works.
